November 16, the Theatre Gallery on Malaya Ordynka opens the doors to present the exhibition «The Ural Theatres: a Dialogue with the Audience» as a part of the II Theatrical Art Biennale. It shows Ural as an important theatre centre of Russia, opens the pages of history and modern activities of the Ural theatres all over their genres and forms; it represents particular moments of theatrical life of the region, rich in creative and artistic events, through the works of the Ural stage designers and the Bakhrushin Theatre Museum’s artefacts.

The exhibition let the audience look into the theatre’s past, which gives the reason to think through the problem of traditions and innovations, main trends in the modern theatre’s development.

The display presents costumes, models, set and costume designs made by famous Ural artists (Vladimir Kravtsev, Sergey Alexandrov, Olga Pautova, Olga Trofimova, etc.), stage props, posters and booklets, photos and videos of the Ural’s leading theatres’ twelve most significant performances: The Yekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theatre (Ural Opera Ballet), The Sverdlovsk Theatre of Musical Comedy, The Provincial Dances Theatre, The Sverdlovsk Drama Theatre, The Perm Tchaikovsky Opera and Ballet Theatre, Kolyada-Theatre and others. Those theatres are multiple nominees and laureates of the Golden Mask National Theatre Prize.

There are also presented works of Moscow artists collaborating with the Ural theatres, such as Sergey Barkhin, Stanislav Benediktov, Irena Belousova, Alla Kozhenkova, Alexei Kondratyev, Tatyana Selvinskaya, Vladimir Serebrovsky, Tatyana Tulubeva, Yuri Ustinov, Victor Shilkrot, Yuri Kharikov and others.

 

The exhibition is organized by the A.A. Bakhrushin Theatre Museum (D.V. Rodionov, General Director of the A.A. Bakhrushin Theatre Museum, Secretary of the Theatre Union of the Russian Federation, Candidate in Art History, Editor-in-Chief of the Stzena Magazine) and by the Association of Ural Theatres (M.V. Safronov, President of the Association of Ural Theatres, Chairman of the Sverdlovsk Branch of the Theatre Union of the Russian Federation).

The Association of Ural Theatres was established on January 29, 2002, based on the Board of Directors of The Ural Region’s Theatres, under the Coordinating Council of Culture and Art named “Big Ural”. It includes both state academic theatres and new theatrical groups from the Urals to Siberia. The permanent president of the Association of Ural Theatres is Mikhail Safronov, Secretary of the Theatre Union of the Russian Federation, General Director of the Sverdlovsk State Academic Theatre of Musical Comedy.
