A.A. Bakhrushin State Central Theatre Museum is a unique phenomenon of the Russian culture. It was found in the middle of 90’s of XIX century by the famous Moscow manufacturer and art patron Alexey Alexandrovich Bakhrushin /1865—1929/, whose private collection became the basis of the museum.
Today the funds of the museum contain more than 1,5 million of different items: sketches of costumes and set stages, created by masters of scenography, photos and portraits, scenic costumes of great actors, programs and posters of plays, rear publications on theatrical art, items of arts and crafts and many others. Theatre collection became one of the most valuable modern Russian collections – it contains works created by Bakst, Golovin, Kustodiev, Dobuzhinsky, Korovin, Juon, Rerikh, Tatlin, Exter, Rodchenko, Popova and many other outstanding masters. A wide variety of exhibitions are held in the main building of the museum and its subsidiaries.
The Bakhrushin museum is always opened for theatre amateurs – besides the detail excursion program, which is interesting not only for children, but also for adults, the museum organizes lectures on theatre history with the use of unique fund materials, meetings with famous artists and recitals.
