«Mirror of the Soul». Salidzhon Mamatkulov’s Personal Exhibition

The Uzbek artist Salidzhon Mamatkulov’s personal exhibition called «Mirror of the Soul» is open from July 6. The display includes his works for the last 12 years. These are paintings from the «Familiar Streets» series with an oriental flavor of Uzbekistan, paintings from the «Two» series devoted to the relationship of a man and a woman. The exhibition will also present the artist’s illustrations for the novels of Guy de Maupassant, the Zweig’s novel «Impatience of the Heart» and the Dostoevsky’s novel «Crime and Punishment». Salidzhon Mamatkulov paints winter landscapes, he has city sketches of Moscow and St. Petersburg and these works are also presented at the exhibition.

The main theme of Mamatkulov’s works is people, their fates, life stories, dark and good times.

According to Salidzhon Mamatkulov, his work is a theatre, a small stage where he is both a director and an actor doing what he is interested in. Here he is not afraid to cry, laugh, open his inner world. The images that he creates must be passed through himself as actors do, otherwise it will be a demonstration of false feelings and emotions. They should live on his own «stage». The artist thinks that only then can people understand his works.

Salidzhon Mamatkulov was born in 1966 in the city of Asaka /Uzbekistan/. He graduated from the Philological Faculty of the Moscow Pedagogical State University and the Tashkent Art College. Mamatkulov is a member of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan. He participated a lot of times in republican exhibitions, won prizes at the international contests of caricaturists. Mamatkulov’s graphic works are kept in private collections in Uzbekistan, Russia, USA, Bulgaria, Greece, Serbia.
