The exhibition presents theatrical works and paintings of the artist Valery Levental, one of the key figures of the Soviet and Russian theatre of the second half of the 20th century. The paintings will be featured for the first time with set designs, which Levental created for performances at the Bolshoy Theatre, Moscow Art Theatre, Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Theatre and various theatres of Russia, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States.

The exhibition demonstrates the development and the renewal of the artist’s creative language and reveals the works of one of the leading stage designers of the second half of the 20th – early 21st century from little-known facts until now. The Bakhrushin Museum collection is represented by costumes created by the artist for Andrey Mironov /“The Marriage of Figaro” by Pluchek/ and Maya Plisetskaya / “The Lady with a Dog” by Shchedrin/.
