As a part of the Theatrical Art Biennale

The Union of the Theatre Workers of the Russian Federation together with the A.A. Bakhrushin State Central Theatre Museum, «Luzhnetsky Hall»

The theme of the current exhibition is a fictional city of KLIN, the city of artists, whose mental map merges into the familiar Moscow reality. The exhibition artists, Maria Pavlenko and Nika Dundua, try an experiment: a theatre artist reflects in his set design, consciously or intuitively, some fragments of the reality, the environment in which he exists. Together with the participants, the exhibition authors want to explore the topography of each project and find some places in the city, which have something in common with the author’s works. The exhibition features models, sketches, art objects and installations, as well as photos devoted to the relationship between the set design and the urban environment. These are the projects of thirteen authors: Maria Berseneva, Ekaterina Galaktionova, Irina Deryabina, Alexandra Kuznetsova, Ziliya Kanchurina, Natalie-Kane Pangilinan, Alexandra Pasternak, Maria Plavinskaya, Victoria Sorokina, Elena Mikulinskaya, Svetlana Goryacheva, Georgy Khomich, Vartan Martynyan, graduates and students of the Moscow Art Theatre School Studio, the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts – GITIS, the HSE Art and Design School, the Vishnevskaya Musical and Theatrical Art College, the British Higher School of Art and Design.

In the run-up to the exhibition, the installation «THEATRICAL OPTICS. GORODKLIN#13 EXHIBITION PRE-PROJECT» was open at the Museum garden on September 8. It consists of five interactive objects designed to open up new ways of perception of reality. Each of the objects focuses the attention on a fragment of reality: like a theatrical portal that separates the stage from the auditorium, the objects delimit the surrounding space, turning some citizens into actors, others into spectators, and the events of everyday life into theatrical performances. Five scenes of action. Five plots that take place here and now. Five new points of view on what surrounds us. Five separate performances in the proposed circumstances.
