Congratulations on the International Museum Day!

On the International Museum Day we would like to share with you one of the memories of Yuri Bakhrushin, the son of the Theatre Museum founder Alexey Bakhrushin:
«Once the great Italian tragedian Tommaso Salvini was in Moscow on tour. During the intermission my father stood beside him in the smoking room and talked about something. Suddenly Salvini asked him: — Tell me, who is the first tragic actress in Russia?
My father looked around the room and saw Maria Yermolova entering it. Here she is, he answered loudly. Salvini approached Yermolova and with a feeling of deep respect raised her hand to his lips. Completely embarrassed, Yermolova put her other hand on Salvini’s forehead – the make-up of the Moor was immediately impressed on the white glove. The witty theatre director A.M. Kondratiev asked Maria Nikolayevna to take off this glove and, shaking it in the air, proclaimed: «The glove of Yermolova with Salvini’s make-up — I give it to the Bakhrushin Museum», — and handed the relic to my father».
The glove of Maria Yermolova with Tommaso Salvini’s make-up is kept in the A.A. Bakhrushin Theatre Museum until today.
Congratulations on the International Museum Day!
