«Unknown Stravinsky: the Story of One Voice» /Exhibition devoted to the 175th anniversary of the birth of Fyodor Stravinsky/

The exhibition «Unknown Stravinsky: the Story of One Voice» devoted to the famous opera singer Fyodor Stravinsky, father of composer Igor Stravinsky, is open from March 22.

The exhibition is represented in the form of an installation, where is possible to make a trip to the  Fyodor Stravinsky’s «three universes»: family history, theatrical backstage and musician’s personal life. The first hall tells about the Stravinsky family, presenting the genealogical tree dating back to the XVI century, the history of the Fyodor Stravinsky’s ancestors and photos of the family of Stravinsky’s wife, Anna Kholodovskaya.

Passing through the stage curtain you will find yourself in the second hall, which presents a complete retrospective of the musician’s career. There are «theatre programs» telling about his main performances. The playbill of Fyodor Stravinsky’s debut performance as Mephistopheles in Gounod’s Faust, numerous photographs, handwritten scores and librettos with the musician’s marks, set designs, portraits of composers with autographs appear behind you in a great variety of characters – from Skula to Ivan the Terrible, from Mephistopheles to Holofernes. There is also an installation made by the artist Alexey Yakimenko, where Stravinsky appears in all of his famous theatrical images.

The third hall dedicated to the Stravinsky’s personal life is presented in the epistolary genre and reflects the erudition and the sensitivity of the musician. Each exhibit is accompanied by an excerpt from letters to Fyodor Stravinsky from relatives and friends. The sound installation by Alexander Snegiryov, where the modern writer reads the musician’s diary records, creates a dialogue between text and sound, immersing you into the nostalgic intimate world of the singer. There are Stravinsky’s personal photos, original letters, a part of the legendary library, a collection of engravings, photographs of the musician’s office in St. Petersburg and pictorial and graphic works made by Ekaterina Stravinskya, Yuri Stravinsky and Dmitry Stelletsky.

All exhibits are presented to the public for the first time.
