The exhibition of Tatiana Selvinskaya «Rainbow of Life. Thirst for Friendship and Love. Painting» devoted to the artist’s 90th anniversary will be held from 11 November at the Main Building of the A.A. Bakhrushin Theatre Museum.

Tatiana Selvinskaya (born in 1927) is a Russian theatre designer, painter and poet, honoured for Services to the Arts in 1990, became a Laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation in 1994 and an Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts in 2012. Tatiana Selvinskaya has designed about 200 performances in Moscow, Saratov, Kazan, Chelyabinsk, Kostroma, Magadan, Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, Ufa, Tashkent, Taganrog and other cities. Among Tatiana’s teachers there were Robert Falk and Alexander Tyshler as well as her father Ilya Selvinsky, a poet, who had a significant influence on the formation of the artist’s personality.

The exhibition at the Bakhrushin Museum will show Tatiana Selvinskaya’s paintings created from 2015 to 2017. Children’s drawings of the artist, which were exhibited at the Theatre Museum two years ago together with her later works, provided an impetus to create new paintings. That’s exactly when Tatiana Selvinskaya got the idea to paint the pictures with touching stories from childhood 80 years later. As a result, a new picturesque series «Rainbow of Life» has appeared. In these works Tatiana Selvinskaya managed to capture the child’s direct view and copy the child’s «ineptitude», partly referring us to archetypal images of primitive times, works of naive art and avant-garde painting, unusually rich on bright colours.

Tatiana Selvinskaya’s paintings convey the artist’s cheerful perception of the world, an incredible passion for life and a love for the world. The author transforms the simplest things from our everyday life: a vase with flowers is like a dancing ballerina; a lampshade hovering above the shelf with kitchen utensils and toys; a pink cat and birds in the sky…

The exhibition at the A.A. Bakhrushin Theatre Museum will display the paintings from the series «Rainbow of Life» and «Thirst for Friendship and Love», as well as two diptychs («Flowers of Life» and «Nest»), two triptychs («Afterlife» and «Blue Bird») and the painting «Two Epochs».
