«Never Ending Fun» is the Moscow theatrical photographer Alexey Nikishin’s exhibition, which will be held from October 20 at the Shchepkin House Museum. The author reinterprets the genre of the photo exhibition in Russian museum traditions and discusses the place of photography in the contemporary culture and its aesthetic value.
Alexey Nikishin is one of the most successful masters of black and white art photography, a member of the International Union of Artists (IFA UNESCO), the Creative Union of Artists of Russia and the Union of Photo Artists of Russia, the author of the ambitious photo project «IN THE ROLE OF YOURSELF» that was a unique exhibition cycle of psychological portraits of famous Russian culture and art figures. Alexey Nikishin’s works were displayed at Central House of Artists, Gostiny Dvor, «Winzavod» and other venues.
For this exhibition Alexey Nikishin decided to place the photos of theatre and cinema «stars» on various objects of modern everyday reality: cups, plates, ashtrays, t-shirts, raincoats, tablecloths. According to the author’s conception, all these items are the new media surrounding us everywhere today.
The photographer’s creative idea reflects the endless replication of photography, typical for our time, when images are constantly presented in everyday life, but a contact with them can last less than a second. We don’t print photos on paper, but we establish a «contact» with a t-shirt or a tea cup where digital images are printed. The author’s works no longer compete for audience’s sympathy and aesthetic evaluation.
The exhibition presents portraits of Russian theatre and cinema artists, including well-known black and white portraits of Chulpan Khamatova, Maria Mironova, Timofey Tribuntsev, Andrey Merzlikin, Sergey Bezrukov, Marina Alexandrova, as well as new portraits of actors from the Sovremennik Theatre, Pyotr Fomenko Workshop Theatre, Gogol Centre Theatre, workshops of Dmitry Brusnikin and Victor Ryzhakov.
