The Museum-Estate of A.N.Ostrovsky/The Theatre Gallery on Malaya Ordynka

The exhibition devoted to the works of the theatre and cinema artist Natalia Schneider-Khachatryan «Flowers for Colombina» is open from July 20 at the Theatre Gallery on Malaya Ordynka Street. This project continues a series of Bakhrushin Museum’s exhibitions dedicated to the works of the students of the outstanding director, stage designer and teacher Nikolay Akimov /1901-1968/. His students retained traditions of the witty theatre, a spirit of experimentation and artistic ingenuity /exhibitions «Marina Azizyan. Clean Change», «Nikolay Akimov. Not Only About the Theatre», «Tatiana Shvets. Empty Space and the Whole Universe»/.

The exhibition presents costume designs for cinema and theatre, Schneider-Khachatryan’s sketches based on the works of A. Pushkin, W. Mozart, C. Gozzi, W. Shakespeare and F. Lorca. A special place is given to the series of works called «Teatriki» – miniature painting made in complex mixed technique invented by the artist herself. There Natalia sets up her own play, where street comedians sing and juggle, the night serenade sounds under the windows of a beautiful woman, lovers meet on the bridges of Venice. Also as a tribute and an admiration for the artist’s work, the floral still-lifes made by Natalia Schneider-Khachatryan are presented in one of the halls.

The key object of the exhibition is a portrait of the artist written by her husband, the famous sculptor, philosopher and graphic artist Rudolf Khachatryan /1937-2007/. On the portrait Natalia Schneider-Khachatryan appears as a mysterious lady in black, a brooding character of her magic theatre.
