The exhibition devoted to the 100th anniversary of the costume designer Olga S.
Kruchinina is held from November 16 to December 10 at the Yermolova House Museum.
The exhibition includes costumes created by Olga Kruchinina that became classics of
Soviet cinema, as well as costume designs and photos of the artist’s life.
Olga S. Kruchinina (24.06.1917 – 13.12.2007) has such titles like People's Artist of
the Russian Federation, Honoured Worker of Culture of the RSFSR, Veteran of the Great
Patriotic War, Commander of the Order of Labour of the Republic of Albania (2nd class).
She was also a member of the Russian Academy of Cinema Arts «Nika».
Despite the fact that the most famous works of Olga Kruchinina were connected
with the films of Alexander Ptushko («The Stone Flower» in 1946, «Ilya Muromets» in
1956, «Ruslan and Lyudmila» in 1972), she has also worked on costumes for films of
various genres like comedies, historical and patriotic films. It was Olga Kruchinina who has
made costumes for the film «The Irony of Fate» by Eldar Ryazanov. Olga Kruchinina has
taught at the Art Department of the Moscow Textile Institute from 1962 to 1964 and then at
the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography from 1977 to 2002, where she has founded the
Costume Design Studio.
The exhibition covers the artist’s entire career, starting with her debut work in the
film «Fifteen-Year- Old Captain» by Vasily Zhuravlyov and ending with her collaboration
with Sergei Bondarchuk in the film «Red Bells Part I: Mexico on Fire» in 1982. It also
includes the teaching period of Olga Kruchinina at the Moscow Textile Institute and the
Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography.
