The halls of the Ostrovsky House Museum will turn into a kingdom of set models and costume designs. A special date, the GITIS Scenography Department’s 25th anniversary, is the reason for this transformation.
The exhibition includes the works of students from four artists’ workshops existing in the department. Future theatre art directors study in the workshops of Professor S.F. Morozov and Senior Lecturer V.N. Arkhipov and future theatrical costume designers get the education in the workshops of Senior Lecturer V.V. Kharkhalup and Associate Professor V.I. Sevryukova. The aim of this exhibition is to show the results achieved by students today.
Designs and set models for performances based on W. Shakespeare’s works «Hamlet» and «The Tempest», «Crime and Punishment» by F.M. Dostoevsky, «A Feast in Time of Plague» by A.S. Pushkin, «Life is a Dream» by P. Calderon and other exhibits will be presented at the exhibition.
The Scenography Department was created in 1992. The aim is to prepare artists of opera, ballet and drama theatres. Several generations of professional stage designers, developing the art of stage design, preserving the academic approach and making new discoveries in the theatre, have graduated from this department for 25 years of its existing.
