“The Cherry Orchard. Sold!”

111years ago, inAugust, 1903, was saled the cherry orchard inthe A.P.Chekhov play ofthe same name.

111anniversary ofthis event the A.A.Bakhrushin Theatre Museum celebrates with the exhibition-installation “The Cherry Orchard. Sold!” /August 16 September 14, 2014/ inthe Theatre Gallery inMalaya Ordynka Street and with the scientific conference “The Last Play ofA.P.Chekhov inthe Art ofXX-XXI Centuries” /August 22and 23, 2014/ inthe Theatre Salon onTverskoy Boulevard.

Blossoming cherry orchard the large-format black-and-white photo ofAlexander Ivanishin /fragment oftheatrical-exhibitional project “Chekhov”/ welcomes visitors ofthe exhibition.
Onthe floor are leaves and white petals. You can walk, the leaves rustle underfoot, tothe drawing-room with abig round table. Onthe table are flowers from the garden, homemade fresh compote, dishes with cherries. Itseems that the family isjust about todraw round the table for anafternoon snack.
According toAlexander Rubtsov, Deputy General Director ofthe A.A.Bakhrushin Theatre Museum for Scientific-Educational Work, who opened the exhibition, here is“the atmosphere ofhome, warm and love, where everybody waits for you and will behappy tosee you”.

Just one step and visitors find themselves inanother place. The world isfalling apart. The sheet covered furniture waits for removal inthe middle ofthe hall. The last hope, you can take one step more and find yourself among empty walls and scattered splinters. Noorchard, nohouse. Isitahistory ofone family orofevery person

„This isamodern life, where often the figures are dominating over the feelings, said onthe vernissage the author ofthe installation and the Head Artist ofthe A.A.Bakhrushin Theatre Museum Vasilina Ovchinnikova. Walking through the exposition, everybody should think what isimportant for him. Isthe orchard important for him?“

„Firs should sit inone ofthe halls, said Viktor Gulchenko, the Director ofthe Museum Department ofResearch and Popularization oftheatrical creative heritage ofA.P.Chekhov (Chekhov-Institute). When you enter the room, you are stunned bysuch precise artistic decision. This isadirect hit onthe target, inthe space ofthe play. Itismore important tofind yourself inits space than inthe space ofany other performance, even very good. The play ismore bottomless. This isthe exhibition, where you want tobealone with “The Cherry Orchard”.

The Head Artist ofthe Lenkom Theatre Alexey Kondratiev, looking atone ofthe exhibits the portrait ofAnton Pavlovich Chekhov made bySergey Chekhov /1948/ remembered, that the copy ofthis portrait hangs above the blackboard inhis classroom.
„Under the portrait ofChekhov passed the best years ofmylife, said Kondratiev, thanks tothe Bakhrushin Museum they are going on. Ihope that further itwill bebeautiful and interesting inthe same way“.

Darya Salmina, the Director ofthe drama festival “Melikhov Summer“, reminded that inMelikhov the cherry orchard isnot saled and invited guests ofthe vernissage and future visitors ofthe exhibition toarrive tosee it.

About “The Cherry Orchard atthe exhibition are talking” directors, artists, photographers and actors.
